Our Food Science degree courses have been carefully designed with input from industry to ensure that you understand the science behind food production while developing the practical skills required to address productivity, profitability and growth.
Study in amazing industry facilities
We are the first educational institution in the UK to achieve Grade AA certification for food safety from the British Retail Consortium (BRC). This is the highest possible benchmark for best practice in food manufacture, so you will be studying in one of the best food processing teaching facilities in Europe in our award-winning £7 million Food Centre.
Our food department is well recognised by the National Skills Academy for Food and Drink and you will have access to cutting-edge facilities such as a commercial dairy, butchery, commercial bakery and innovation rooms.
*Study tours are available at an additional cost.

Our food system is going beyond what our planet can currently sustain and we are in need of innovative food thinkers to create change. Reaseheath’s FdSc Food Science and Innovation degree will help students understand the global nature of our food supply and how a circular food economy approach that replenishes and supports the natural environment will create a more sustainable, viable future.
The food sector offers a range of rewarding careers both in the UK and overseas. The industry reports a shortage of skilled graduates to fill science related roles, so our courses are focused on preparing you for a career in this industry after you graduate.
Gain experience with a work placement
As a student on a food science or bakery foundation degree, you will complete a placement during your second year of study and 150 hours of work- based learning. Students studying on the Eden programme will be able to complete a research project with a company in the food sector.
Stand out with additional qualifications
You can become an Associate Student Member of the Institute of Food Science and Technology (IFST) and gain additional qualifications to make your CV stand out from the crowd.

Lyric Clarke
Foundation Degree Food Science and Innovation 2020
I find the food industry fascinating, particularly in how it’s using new technology to meet
the global demand for food production.
I’m interested in learning about food sustainability and how to avoid food waste and I really enjoy our science sessions in the labs. We also discuss morals and ethics so there’s a lot of debating.
Eventually I’d like to qualify as a food technology teacher so I can inspire the next generation in the same way as my lecturers have inspired me. After my Foundation Degree I’m planning to do a further year’s top-up to get my BSc (Hons) in Food Manufacturing and then I’ll do my teacher training certificate.
