BSc (Hons) Food Industry and Management
The surge in demand for craft gins has led to a career boost for Abby, a Senior Development Technologist with Merseyside based Halewood Wines and Spirits, an independent drinks manufacturer.
As a specialist in the new product development of gins, rums and ready to drink tipples, Abby is responsible for coming up with trend setting recipes which will enable her employers to expand their range of own brand products. Her job in this highly innovative industry involves visiting the nationwide distilleries within the group, overseeing taste panels, bringing new products to launch and helping to set up a gin bar in Liverpool.
Abby worked at Halewoods for two days each week alongside her degree studies and used her connections when applying for a graduate position there. She has worked for the company for five years, has been promoted three times and now reports directly to the Chief Executive.
The food and drink industry is quick paced and exciting, particularly in the areas of innovation, new product development and research, and offers so many great opportunities. Reaseheath’s degree is outstanding because it encompasses so many practical elements as well as the theory. The lecturers all have industry experience and are always happy to advise you, so you feel fully prepared for your career.
