The Associate Minister at St Mary’s Church, Nantwich, the Reverend Dr Bernard Moss, was introduced to the Reaseheath Experience when he visited campus last week.

Rev Moss was invited over for a chat and tour by University Centre Reaseheath staff as thanks for the key part he played at this year’s HE graduation at St Mary’s Church.

It is hoped that developing closer relationships between the church and Reaseheath will lead to stronger links with our local community, possibly through mutually beneficial projects by our undergraduates.

Rev Moss, who was welcomed onto campus by Don Clarke, HE Academic Services Officer, and Myung-Chul (MC) Chang, our own chaplain, enjoyed a presentation from Rachel Ellis-Jones, Assistant Principal and Dean of Higher Education, followed by a tour of the HE department.

He was particularly impressed to hear that University Centre Reaseheath is bucking national trends by continuing to grow its intake of undergraduates. In the main, this is because it is specialist and vocationally focused and has a good track record of getting students into work.

He also learned that, apart from offering excellent opportunities for academic research and learning, Reaseheath is focused on developing its students socially through RAG activities and voluntary roles. Our undergraduates are also increasingly helping local businesses through research and knowledge transfer.

Rev Moss, who is a retired Professor of Social Work, Education and Spirituality, said: “This has been an interesting introduction to the richness and diversity of Reaseheath life and what the college offers to its students and to its community.

“It is a flourishing centre of learning with cutting edge facilities. Not many Nantwich residents realise that we have a university on our doorstep and that Reaseheath’s graduation is a mutual celebration of local success.

“Hopefully we will continue to work closely together.”
