Tom Reynolds
BTEC Level 5 Higher National Diploma in Public Services
I’ve always wanted to be a police officer, helping to keep the community safe. I’d be following in the footsteps of my grandad, who was an inspector with Merseyside Police.
Once I’ve finished here I’m considering studying criminology at the University of Chester or applying to become a special constable. I feel well prepared to do either. This course has increased my confidence and interpersonal skills, thanks to the activities I’ve done and the people I’ve met.
My favourite modules have been psychology and applied forensic psychology. I’ve moved up from a Level 3 Diploma in Public Services and I’ve found the academic side at degree level needs discipline to meet the required standards and deadlines. It’s also critical that you have good research skills. I think these will be really helpful to me in the future, for instance for offender profiling.
Apart from the course, the best thing about being a Reaseheath undergraduate is the way everyone respects each other whatever course they’re studying. I’ve been a residential student here for the past two years and we’re all just like one big family.
